International Day of Education:It is not lost on me that the world celebrates the International Day of Education today. Education serves as the cornerstone of societal progress, capable of empowering individuals and fostering sustainable development. Yet, accessibility to quality education remains a challenge in many regions. In Africa, including Nigeria, addressing this gap is not only a moral imperative but also a strategic investment in the continent's future. We must begin to ask ourselves if the current educational curricula is capable of preparing our children for the challenges of the 21st century. There is therefore an urgent need for a review of the current educational curricula to meet the demands of the 21st century. As a continent, we must invest more in the educational advancement of our people. As Thomas Sankara once wrote ‘ the enemies of a people are those who keep them in ignorance’. W. U. Sumuko, Esq.

I hope the new UK government enhances relations with #African nations seeking mutual benefit and long-term partnerships. As we celebrate the International Day of Education today, I find myself reflecting on the profound impact education has on shaping not only the minds of our young learners but also the very fabric of our society. This year's theme, "Education as a Tool for Lasting Peace," resonates deeply with the mission I passionately lead as a teacher training leader in the education management industry in Nigeria. This is also very timely considering recent happenings in the different parts of the country and even around the globe. In the vibrant landscape of basic education, we are not merely imparting knowledge; we are nurturing the architects of a more harmonious future, a future we earnestly look forward to. Education acts as a catalyst for understanding, tolerance, and unity which are fundamental pillars upon which lasting peace is built. By empowering our students with a life-changing education, we equip them with the tools to navigate a diverse and interconnected world, fostering empathy and breaking down the barriers that divide us. Through everyday subjects, we prepare learners to choose peace over war and dialogue over conflict. In the Nigerian context, where diversity is a source of strength but has now become the lines that divide us, our commitment to education should become a beacon of hope. Through innovative teaching methodologies, inclusive curricula, and community engagement, we are laying the groundwork for a generation that values dialogue over discord, and cooperation over conflict. The transformative power of education is not only in the knowledge it imparts but also in the values it instills, setting the stage for a peaceful and collaborative coexistence. On this International Day of Education, I call upon all education stakeholders, from policymakers to teachers, parents to community leaders, to recognize the pivotal role we play in shaping a peaceful world. We must collectively invest in education as a force that transforms societies. By prioritizing accessible, equitable, and quality education for every child, we are sowing the seeds of lasting peace—seeds that will bear the fruits of understanding, tolerance, and unity for generations to come. Together, let us weave a tapestry of enlightenment that will serve as a lasting legacy of peace for our world. 🌐📖 #EducationForPeace #InternationalDayOfEducation #NigeriaEducation #lifechangingeducation

Education is a human right, a public good, and a public responsibility. Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth, and adults behind. Today, in Nigeria, 20 million children are out of school! Their right to education is being violated and it is unacceptable. It's time to transform education!International Education Day is celebrated annually on January 24th. This day highlights the importance of education as a fundamental human right and a key driver for sustainable development and lasting peace. The theme for this year, "Learning for Lasting Peace," emphasizes the role of education in fostering understanding, tolerance, and cooperation among individuals and communities. In today's globalized and interconnected world, the significance of education in cultivating a culture of peace cannot be overstated. It goes beyond traditional academic learning to encompass values, ethics, and a commitment to social justice. As we celebrate International Education Day, we reflect on the transformative power of education in shaping a future where lasting peace is not just an aspiration but a tangible reality.#internationaleducationday
